But here’s what makes this one different from most: grades alone won’t get you in. PHINMA AU is looking for student leaders people who are active in organizations, have a track record of involvement, and can articulate what they stand for. The application reflects that.
Here’s everything you need to prepare.

The scholarship is renewable, as long as you maintain the academic and involvement requirements.

What makes this application unique
Most scholarship applications ask for grades and income documents. PHINMA AU asks for all of that – plus three things that require real thought and preparation:
A handwritten application essay
Topic: “The Moment I Became More Than a Student: My Defining Leadership Experience”
- Maximum 500 words
- Must be handwritten
- Submit as a JPEG file
This isn’t just a writing exercise. The topic is specific and personal – PHINMA AU wants to know about a real moment that shaped your identity as a leader. Vague or generic essays won’t stand out. Think of a concrete experience, tell it clearly, and explain what changed because of it.
An application video
- Discuss the advocacies you support
- Maximum 2 minutes
- Submit in MP4 format
Two minutes is shorter than it sounds. Be clear and direct – open with your name and the advocacy you care most about, explain why, and close with what you’ve done or plan to do about it. Rehearse before you record.
A recommendation letter from an organization adviser
- Must come from an adviser of a school or community organization you are active in not a teacher or homeroom adviser
- The letter must include: your position in the organization, your notable contributions, and the adviser’s name, designation, and contact number
- Address the letter to PHINMA AU
This letter matters because it confirms your involvement – PHINMA AU will use it to verify that your leadership claims are real. Give your adviser enough time to write a detailed, personalized letter.

Tips before you submit
On the essay:
The prompt asks for a defining moment not a list of everything you’ve done. Pick one experience, go deep on it, and connect it clearly to who you are now. Handwrite it neatly presentation counts.
On the video:
Don’t script it word-for-word. Know your points and speak naturally. Authenticity reads better on camera than a rehearsed monologue.
On the recommendation letter:
Give your adviser at least a week’s notice. Brief them on what the letter needs to include your position, your contributions, their contact details so they don’t have to guess what PHINMA AU is looking for.
